Intermodal Network Update for Friday, January 30, 2026
Operational Performance
BNSF operating teams have made strong progress restoring network performance following recent winter weather impacts. Improving operating conditions are enabling increased velocity and terminal throughput across multiple areas of the network, supporting a continued return toward normal service levels, with the network expected to be fully rebalanced next week. While extreme cold temporarily affected car velocity and terminal dwell compared with the prior week and typical December performance, metrics have strengthened over the past several days. With remaining cold-weather restrictions in northern regions lifted today, mainline fluidity is improving, yard congestion is easing, and local service metrics have shown improvement over the past few days as conditions normalize.

Supporting Intermodal Facility Fluidity Recovery
As the impacts of Winter Storm Fern continue to subside on our network, BNSF has deployed additional resources to help expedite intermodal facility recovery. Some locations, including Memphis and Logistics Park Chicago (LPC), are experiencing extended pick-up times. We ask customers to prioritize unit pick-ups at Alliance, Texas; our Chicago-area facilities, including LPC and Corwith; and Memphis, as their operations allow, to help improve traffic flows, facility production, and overall processing capacity for inbound and outbound shipments.
If weather issues create staffing challenges at your Distribution Centers and you begin to see more inbound units or elevated demand, please share this information with your BNSF marketing representative, as this will help us better align our departures and resources to support your needs.
Service Expectations for the Week Ahead
Record-low temperatures will return to portions of the Plains and Southern Plains, and into the Gulf Coast, this weekend as a strong Arctic air mass settles over the region before moving east, driving temperatures well below seasonal norms. Overnight lows in some areas are expected to fall into the single digits, with wind chills dropping as low as -5°F to -15°F, particularly across areas of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. BNSF operating teams have implemented winter-weather operating protocols and are closely monitoring conditions to support safe and reliable service.
As always, we thank you for your business and appreciate the opportunity to serve as your transportation service provider. We welcome your feedback and questions.
