Agriculture and Energy Network Update for Friday, August 29, 2025
Operational Performance
BNSF operating teams are generating improved performance and building on the positive momentum going into the holiday weekend. Average car velocity increased nearly 2% versus the prior week. Terminal dwell remains steady as compared to the prior week’s average and levels in July. Our local service compliance measure, which reflects our timeliness in handling carload freight, is above 90% and improved compared to both the previous week and the prior month.
Labor Day Operating Plan
Agricultural trains will run as usual, and Grain Operations will maintain full coverage during this time. While carload train service will continue uninterrupted on Labor Day, BNSF intends to limit yard, local, and road-switch assignments at terminals on Monday, September 1, in line with customer activity and demand. Please consult Demurrage Tariff 6004-C for details on free time and charges applicable for Labor Day. Note that connecting carriers with reduced operations due to the holiday might result in delays for interline traffic.

Service Expectations for the Week Ahead
Most of the network is expected to operate under favorable conditions throughout the Labor Day weekend; however, multiple thunderstorms are forecasted for the Plains and Deep South. Heavy rain and possible flash flooding could impact Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas during the holiday. BNSF teams will closely monitor the tracks and infrastructure for weather-related issues and take necessary precautions to ensure safe operations.
